Safe Pathways to Redress: Supporting CALD Survivors Through Sensitive Communication

Department of Social Services

CALD survivors of institutional child sexual abuse face unique barriers to accessing the National Redress Scheme. The Department of Social Services partnered with us to develop a community engagement strategy prioritising culturally sensitive and trauma-informed communication. Our mission? To create safe and accessible pathways for CALD individuals to engage with the redress process.

Our strategy centred on engaging a trauma-informed expert to ensure all materials were accurate, consistent, and respectful across multiple languages. We provided tailored information and support through community consultation, direct engagement with CALD audiences, strategic stakeholder engagement, community leader mobilisation, and accessible resources.

These resources included brochures, posters, fact sheets, and animated videos, distributed through targeted media outreach, public libraries, and social media engagement. The campaign and resources developed were a great success, and we are currently rolling out community engagement and workshops to further support the campaign.
